Intro to Lighting Training
The Intro to Lighting Training is part of a two-part, beginner-friendly learning series hosted by Five Acre Co at the KCC in Port Alberni.
These training days were created to support people in our community who are curious about live event production and want a clearer understanding of how sound and lighting work in real-world settings. Whether you’re a volunteer, musician, venue staff member, or simply interested in what happens behind the scenes, this series is designed to be approachable and practical.
Each training day is led by Andrew Taylor, Technical Productions Director at Five Acre Co, and focuses on hands-on learning using real equipment. This is not a lecture-style course. The goal is to build understanding, confidence, and comfort around the basics of live sound and lighting without intimidation or pressure.
Participants can attend either the Intro to Sound day, the Intro to Lighting day, or both. Each session runs for a full day and includes time for questions, discussion, and real-world examples. Sessions are offered in person at the KCC, with a MS Teams option available for those who cannot attend in person.
These training days are open to the public, free for existing Five Acre technicians, and offered on a sliding scale to keep them accessible.
At its core, this project is about sharing knowledge, building skills locally, and creating a more confident and capable live events community.
